There is especially a skills shortage in certain areas of Engineering, Healthcare, Education and other occupations. Examples of jobs listed as shortage occupations include railway engineers, transportation and highway engineers, nurses of all types, medical consultants in a number of fields, GPs, physiotherapists and teachers of any subject compulsory in UK schooling.
If you have high level qualifications and a job offer from a UK company in a shortage occupation then it can help, make it straightforward to apply for a work permit with a Home Office decision usually within a week of application.
Because the list has been officially approved by UK Government, it means UK employers can apply to employ a skilled person from outside the country, and obtain the preferred candidate a work permit. For those who are unable to obtain a valid visa to work in the UK, and have a job which is on the approved list, the opportunity to work here is a reality.
Although not on the approved list, there are many more occupations that are still in short supply and include: Teachers Secretaries & Administrators Hotel & Catering staff For all who can meet skills shortages, you can often earn more money, have more choice of jobs, and most importantly have job interviews or even a job offer upon arrival, are all a reality.
