The second tier (Tier 2) of the new points based system UK immigration service replaced UK work permits and applies to medium and highly skilled workers wishing to immigrate to the UK who have an offer from a UK sponsoring company in place.
Tier 2 – General is for people coming to the United Kingdom with a job offer to fill a gap that cannot be filled by a settled worker.
As is the case for a tier 3 visas, tier 4 visa and a tier 5 visa, applying for a UK visa for immigration under tier 2 will require each candidate to obtain a certificate of sponsorship, in this case from the sponsoring company, as part of their visa application.
Types of Tier 2 Skilled Visas
The following are the different visa types of Tier 2 Skilled visas.- Tier 2 Work Permits Visas.
Under the tier 2 immigration structure, employers are responsible for ensuring that candidates are eligible and suitable to fill the positions being offered and as an organisation, they may be subjected to immigration compliance checks with or without prior notice.
- Tier 2 Change of Employment.
Tier 2 immigration permit candidates can change their job whilst in the UK, however the process of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship must be repeated and a candidate must be reassessed against the points test.
- Tier 2 Intra Company Transfers.
Applying for an Intra-Company Transfer under tier 2 allows a candidate to transfer from an overseas branch of a UK firm to work on a specific project.
Tier 2 ICTs place greater emphasis upon the employer demonstrating that the salary is appropriate for the position and that no UK resident worker can fill the position.
